According to Reuters, Silicon Valley graphics chip maker NVIDIA has released the first fully automated driving system designed computer chip, at the same time, NVIDIA also said that more than 25 customers have used this chip to develop a new generation of unmanned vehicles, automatic Driving a taxi and a long distance truck.

According to the British Weida, the world's largest postal and logistics company "Deutsche Post" and the top auto drive auto parts supplier ZF plans to deploy in 2019 using the chip to build the fleet.
The new chip is the third generation of the NVIDIA "Drive PX" automotive project, code-named "Pegasus" (Pegasus). The chip looks only the size of the license plate, but has a strong data center level processing power.
Pegasus computing speed of 320 trillion times per second, compared to the previous generation XP 2 performance improved by as much as 13 times.
The company said that a single NVIDIA Xavier-class processor is enough to respond to the three-level semi-automatic driving, and a combination of multiple mobile graphics processors can provide the required level of 5 automatic driving operations.
Level 5 autopilot means that the car is driving without any human intervention, and the ultimate autopilot does not even need a steering wheel and brakes. Level 3 semi-automatic driving still need steering wheel, in order to prepare the driver in the system when the manual operation. 4-level automatic driving Jin to ensure that in the special lane to achieve automatic driving.
Experts say that this exciting progress is the cornerstone of future research and development and testing of autopilot cars.
Danny Shapiro, director of the project, said in an interview that most of the 25 customers who built products using the Pegasus platform focused on driving a taxi that would not be equipped with steering wheels and brakes at the beginning of the construction. Will only operate on a specific dedicated lane. And some big car manufacturers will be announced in the next few months based on Pegasus build products.

At the developer conference in Munich, the company's Pegasus product line will be available to automakers in mid-2018 for R & D and software soft testing.
British Weida and Germany Post and ZF company launched a tripartite cooperation, one of the projects is StreetScooter automatic delivery truck. Three companies in Munich showcased the prototype of the truck, the truck is based on the Drive PX chip, the body is equipped with six cameras, a radar and a lidar 3D laser sensor.
The first batch of automatic delivery vehicles will be used in the distribution center of the internal lane or long-distance transport line. "They are not to replace the driver, but to make the driver more efficient and safe."
Currently, the new drive PX2 has 225 customers including car manufacturers, auto parts manufacturers and map manufacturers, NVIDIA said after the upgrade to the Pegasus chip, the customer's current software can be compatible with the use.
This customer base may include Tesla (Model 3), and Volkswagen Audi A8, which is the world's first with three semi-automatic driving characteristics of the models. Toyota's next-generation autopilot and Geely's Volvo are also using the NVIDIA chip.
